Moderna; Pfizer, and BioNTech are now all duking it out in a federal lawsuit over claims that the latter two stole the technology used to create the MRNA technology that is understood to form the foundation or basis of the COVID-19 vaccine. Moderna is accusing its rivals of essentially stealing patents that they patented more than a decade ago.
“We are filing these lawsuits to protect the innovative mRNA technology platform that we pioneered, invested billions of dollars in creating, and patented during the decade preceding the COVID-19 pandemic,” Moderna CEO Stéphane Bancel said in a statement.
