The Lowdown

Following a trial at least on money laundering charges, Michael Lacey is headed to prison. The infamous website Backpage.com [which is/was nothing more than a different version of Craigslist] was found to have run classified ads for prostitution in which Lacey and the company sought to profit off of even though they knew it was wrong.

Last year, Lacey was notably convicted on a single count of international money laundering though faces dozens of more charges related to prostitution facilitation and additional money laundering charges. Prosecutors and authorities claim that the site along with Lacey amassed a five-hundred million dollar fortune from running illicit prostitution ads.

Two other executives from the company Chief Financial Officer John Brunst and Executive Vice President Scott Spear were also convicted on Wednesday and each sentenced to ten years in prison for their roles in the decade long scheme.
