Second officer in death of Tyre Nichols changes plea, facing forty years in prison on fed charges

A former TN cop charged in the case of Tyre Nichols’ death, Emmitt Martin III has pleaded guilty to federal charges just weeks ahead of his expected trial.

The Lowdown

On Friday, disgraced former officer Emmitt Martin III changed his plea to guilty in relation to excessive force charges in the death of Tyre Nichols. Martin III is one of five officers charged in the beating death of Nicholas who was at the direction of Martin beaten to death.

According to the case, Martin now faces up to forty years in prison for essentially failing to do his job and intervene and providing provably false information to his supervisors at onset of the case.
