Chinese authorities are racing against time to lockdown local cities that are experiencing high levels of COVID infections. According to CNN, authorities have already initiated a number of lockdowns and largely consider the new outbreak to be the worst since roughly about 2020.

Beginning back in early March, Chinese authorities along with the NHC (National Health Commission) began reporting significant spikes in numerous regional areas.  2,125 cases were reported across 58 cities in 19 of 31 mainland provinces sparking what would become of the latest round of lockdowns and mandatory quarantines in the country.

As of this writing, more than 10,000 cases have been reported since the outbreak began just a few weeks ago. CNN reports that more than half of the total infections in the latest outbreak have been reported in northeastern Jilin province.
