SAUDI ARABIA — In one of the worlds strictest kingdoms, women, are more often than goes noticed treated like second class citizens. Â How so? In Saudi Arabia, it is required under Islamic and Kingdom law that women receive permission from a male guardian for just about anything.
Yes, that means getting a job; health care, the very basic stuff women in other parts of the world are accustomed to. Â Now, according to reports out of the Kingdom — women are gunning to change that.
Some 14k women have reportedly signed a petition ordering the government to remove male guardianship from the lives of Saudi women, something that has been hailed as unprecedented and historic in a country where women have usually kept quiet.
No official word yet from the government as to whether or not the petition will be heard.
