The Lowdown
Just a week after the shooting of two National Guard members in DC, DHS officials have announced that travel bans are set to be extended to more than 30 countris instead of its initial 19 previously announced by the Trump Administration. Among those 19 are: Afghanistan, Somalia, Iran, Haiti, and numerous others.
In an interview on Thursday, DHS head Kristi Noem wasn’t specific on what countries that ‘more than 30’ included though did confirm that the ban expects to see an extensive expansion.
The ban was sparked specifically because the shooter involved in the National Guard incident Rahmanullah Lakanwal emigrated from Afghanistan to the United States after the infamous U.S withdrawal from the country several years ago. Lakanwal has been charged with first-degree murder after one of the two National Guard members Specialist Sarah Beckstorm died from her wounds from the 26 November shooting.
