Scandal in politics in Minnesota. According to reports, a Republican politician is out of a job this week after being arrested in a prostitution ring sting. Minnesota state Sen. Justin Eichorn resigned in disgrace before he could be booted.
The Lowdown
Minnesota State Senator Justin Eichorn is out of a job because of serious federal charges involving minor allegations. According to the Minnesota Star Tribune, the scandalous resignation came about after Eichorn was arrested on Monday on charges that he attempted to communicate with an undercover detective he thought was a 17-year-old underage girl.
On Wednesday, he was formally charged with attempted coercion of a minor and enticement of an underage minor.
In case it couldn’t get any worse it does. According to the case, Eichorn, 40, attempted to arrange the meeting after having found done so through an online sex ad that had been set up by police. At first contact, officers allege that he quickly asked for prices and services despite one detail that would later seal his fate.
Republicans in the legislature were according to the same report so offended by the nature of the charges that they almost universally felt a suspension was warranted.
In other details from the charging documents, the married Dad of 4 allegedly told the undercover detective he thought was a minor that her ‘age’ (which was stated in msgs to be 17) was (‘not’) an issue. He was later arrested after an arranged meetup in Bloomington on Monday.
