Colleen Shogan, who was first nominated for the post in 2022, has abruptly been dismissed. According to a post on X, the Trump Administration notified Shogan on Friday.

Shogan who was the first woman not lead the archives is out of a job. According to reports, the dismissal was inevitable but a surprise to many that it came so early. It is understood that the Trump Admin wants to replace Shogan.
“At the direction of @realDonaldTrump the Archivist of the United States has been dismissed tonight,” White House Director of Presidential Personnel Sergio Gor wrote in a post on X. “We thank Colleen Shogan for her service.”
