1,300 people died this year during Hajj: Saudi Arabia

Hajj the annual pilgrimage this year has instead become a deadly trap due to complications from severe weather. According to government figures, more than 1.3k people died.

The Lowdown

“The health system addressed numerous cases of heat stress this year, with some individuals still under care. Regrettably, the number of mortalities reached 1,301,” the Saudi government said in a statement according to a report by CNN.

Saudi Arabia in the same breath claimed that nearly 83% of attendees this year weren’t authorised to attend.
