A dual American citizen has been arrested by Russian authorities on allegations of treason. According to TASS, Ksenia Karelina the Russian-American woman is accused of raising money for the Ukrainian army.
The Lowdown
It is being claimed that she was working for an agency that in the end was providing funds to Ukraine’s armed forces. It is unclear if she knew this willingly or not.
“The Federal Security Service in Yekaterinburg suppressed the illegal activities of a 33-year-old resident of Los Angeles, who has dual citizenship of Russia and the United States,” TASS has the FSB as saying.
According to separate reports, the arrest took place in the town of Yekaterinburg outside of a local movie theatre. She specifically is accused of transferring $51.80 from a U.S. bank into Ukraine in what Russia says amounts to treason.
