Severe droughts in India and another throughout Thailand are now threatening something we all enjoy: sweets (of varying kinds.) According to reports, the cost of sugar and the basic desserts is climbing and expected to climb as crops continue to be affected by mother nature’s affliction for showing humans — she’s had enough.

The Lowdown

Guardian reports that the price of sugar in 2023 rose about 8.9% with more increases expected. An increase of at least 5.6% is expected this year.
