MTA officials on Monday unveiled the first major look at the agency’s attempt to beat fare evaders (it’s bound to go horribly wrong and fast) in Queens. The new set up as expected features higher fare-doors and a host of other changes.
During a press conference Monday, the very people whose inaction helped encourage fare-beating decided to share with the public the expected changes.
Starting today, the Sutpin train station has new doors as announced during the conference. The next station to get the upgrade will be the 8-Avenue Penn Station stop which cost $700,000 to complete. The MTA will also ask the fire department to approve changes to the design which will also include the removal of the emergency fare doors found in most stations.
