An eyebrow raising new piece of legislation by city council has some talking this week. According to the legislation, it would be then illegal to smoke on any sidewalk immediately outside of or nearby a park.
But some aren’t happy about the legislation considering a sidewalk is a sidewalk The bill introduced by Queens councilwoman Sandra Ung (D) comes after her office received ‘dozens’ of complaints about people smoking cigarettes and puffing weed in such circumstances.
Fines would be $50 for first offenders and $200 for future violations within one year.
