At the same time revealing the information of some of their own officers who are actively undercover. According to an FOIA request made by Los Angeles based news outlet Knock LA — the information was revealed after watchdog group Stop LAPD Spying Coalition posted the names online. It isn’t immediately clear how or who the group got the information from.
The information reportedly contained badge numbers; bureaus, names, ethnicity, ranks, date of hire and other personal information. Stop LAPD Spying Coalition opposes the database being used for anything other than countersurveillance.
“You can use it to identify officers who are causing harm in your community,” the group wrote online in the database. “Police have vast information about all of us at their fingertips, yet they move in secrecy.”
An investigation is underway to determine how the information got passed on to the group and why.
