Ardern ‘s shock announcement has raised eyebrows. According to a press conference on Thursday, Jacinda Ardern has announced that she intends to step down as Prime Minister of New Zealand within weeks. In fact, she expects her current term to end on or around 7 February 2023 as a new Labour PM gets sworn in.

“The decision was my own,” Ardern said. “Leading a country is the most privileged job anyone could ever have, but also the most challenging. You cannot and should not do the job unless you have a full tank, plus a bit in reserve for those unplanned and unexpected challenges.”

It comes as Ardern intends to finally marry her longtime partner Mr. Gayford and see her daughter off to school later this year.
