Another blow for the Trump Administration. According to a court ruling released on Monday, Habbas has been disqualified from serving as the top federal prosecutor in NJ — a post that an appeals court found she should never have held.
The Lowdown
Alina Habba ‘s future as the interim top federal prosecutor of New Jersey has come to an end. According to an appeals court ruling out of Philadelphia, the appeals court sided with a previous lower court ruling also against Habba.
“It is apparent that the current administration has been frustrated by some of the legal and political barriers to getting its appointees in place. Its efforts to elevate its preferred candidate for US attorney for the district of New Jersey, Alina Habba, to the role of acting US attorney demonstrate the difficulties it has faced – yet the citizens of New Jersey and the loyal employees in the US attorney’s Office deserve some clarity and stability,” the court wrote in its deciding order.
“We will affirm the district court’s disqualification order.”
In case it couldn’t get any worse for Habba it might. Some reports suggest that the ruling against her could also entirely derail any actions she took in the position since at least July.
