The Lowdown
While America has twenty other things on many need to be aware of a particular Supreme Court case currently being heard inside the nation’s top court. The case stems from Louisiana ‘s publicized efforts to all but eliminate Black and Democratic leaning districts in the state.Â
However, their efforts have been impeded by Section 2 of the 1965 Voting Rights Act which prevents discrimination against minority voters.  During the Wendesday hearing, per NBC News, all six conservative justices appeared to be leaning towards once again limiting the law.
NBC notes that the case first emerged after Louisiana was required per the terms of a lawsuit to create a second majority-Black congressional district. The state as a whole now objects to the newly redrawn maps. State officials and their supporters claim that considering race in the situation of restricting violates the 14th and 15th amendment of the U.S constitution.
