Christina Chapman the now infamous woman who helped North Korea scam its way into millions has learned her fate. According to reports, the true extent of her ‘farm’ was discovered only after a laptop farm was discovered inside of her home.
The Lowdown
In a case that brought forth a case of betrayal, the case of Christina Chapman is a shocking example of betraying ones country. DOJ reports that the now-infamous scammer who at one point used more than 90 devices to help facilitate a North korean dragnet allowing people to skirt hiring checks therebty landing more than 300 jobs under phony pretenses.
The bizarre plot reportedly leveraged stolen identities of real US citizens, which in turn, allowed North Korean nationals to skirt past otherwise customary hiring checks one might find in the United States. Among those where people managed to get fake jobs included a car manufacturer, a Silicon Valley tech firm, and even a U.S media group.
In a press release, the DOJ revealed that Chapman and her North Korean accomplices helped the NK government generated upwards of $17m between 2020 and 2023. Chapman on top of an 8-year-sentence has been ordered to forfeit some $284,000 with an additional fine toppping $175,000 which is what she reportedly earned for her time leading the scam.
