Shock in Germany this week as the trial of what prosecutors call one of the most disturbing cases in recent memory has begun. A 40-year-old palliative doctor is on trial in the country for murdering 15 of his patients (but it gets much darker).
The Lowdown
Shock in a German courtroom yesterday as the trial of a palliative doctor accused of giving 15 of his patients deadly cocktails got underway. The 40-year-old physician allegedly targeted his patients with the direct intent to kill them without their knowledge. He has been charged with 15 counts of “murder with premeditated malice and other base motives” and is seeking a life sentence, which in Germany usually is a 15-year prison sentence.
The alleged killer, per Germany’s privacy rules, has only been publicly identified as Johannes M. In case it couldn’t get any worse, it does. Police are still investigating the crimes of Johannes, with numerous other murders expected to be discovered. According to the case, the man was found out after a co-worker grew suspicious after at least five of his patients all died in ‘fires.’
It still gets worse. According to the prosecutors’ office in Berlin, at least 70 more deaths are being investigated as potentially linked to the villainous doctor.
