A stunning defeat at the hands of app developers. According to reports, officials at Homeland Security are attempting to round up the press over press reports of a new app called IceBlock (and yes it is just as the name sounds.)
The Lowdown
Where there’s a will there’s a way at least according to one app developer taking on ICE enforcement directly. According to ABC 7, app ddeveloper Joshua Aaron is facing heat this week over his newest app called IceBlock — that alerts people nearby when ICE agents or masked enforcement officers are in the area. The app has attracted the attention of the Department of Homeland Security after CNN widely reported on the app sparking backlash over claims that the network was promoting the app which officials claim is illegal although there is no indication of such that it actually is and it remains widely available on the app store.
According to the app, it has about 20k users, with large numbers in Los Angeles, which has become ground zero for Donald Trump ‘s widespread immigration crackdown. ICEBLOCK is as explained designed to be an early warning system for users to report when ICE is operating nearbyy. Users can add a pin on an area where they may have spotted ICE agents with notes on the sighting. Others within a 5 mile radius will all receive that alert alerting the community at large.
The app is only available on IOS and is free.
