Haiti the Caribbean country notably overrun by gangs and other dangerous organizations is back in the news. According to reports, the U.S Department of Homeland Security has announced that temporary protections for Haitians in the country are now revoked — the move is estimated to put more than 300k people at risk of deportation.
The Lowdown
In a startling move against all forms of common sense, the Trump Administration is preparing to force some 300k Haitians in the UnIted States to return to the violence-rattled country. Haiti for several years has been overrun by gangs and other violent groups that have seized power from Democratically-elected officials.
According to the New York Times,  American officials are even claiming to Haitian nationals that it is safe to return to their country. That according to announcement from the U.S Embassy in Haiti isn’t actually true, all American citizens were advised to flee the country just last week.
Assuming the change survives any legal challenges, it is expected to take effect 2 September.
