The Lowdown

According to reports, former Argentinian President Cristina Fernández de Kirchner, 72, will not be serving her prison sentence behind bars. According to a federal court ruling on Tuesday, a judge found that due to her age, she shouldn’t be sent to prison, and of course, the security concerns around jailing her. Instead, per the ruling, she will serve her sentence where she must remain at home with her family in Buenos Aires in the home she lives in with her daughter and granddaughter.

Kirchner, 72, was previously and infamously found to have directed state contracts to a pal while she was First Lady during her husband’s term and later President during her own term. Her sentence was upheld just last week by the country’s highest court.
