U.S authorities are out today with an increased warning about Americans  (and others) traveling to Venezuela.  Venezuela is a hostile South American country where many people may face wrongful and lengthy detentions for no valid reason.

The Lowdown

Travelers including Americans (because this does not apply to just Americans) are being advised this week to steer clear of Venezuela at all costs.   Since 2019,  the U.S has had a level 4 travel advisory against travel to the country amid reports that the regime of Nicholas Maduro is wrongfully imprisoning people he doesn’t like.

The renewed warning from the State Department outlines that people may also face lengthy detentions, lose contact with the outside world following arrest, kidnapping, torture, and a full lack of embassy support. People are advised that if you must travel to the country you should probably do so armed and with a security detail because if you vanish in Venezuela at the hands of Nicholas Maduro — America may never be able to find you.
