Donald Trump ‘s Administration is continuing its growing attacks on higher-ed  concerning so-called DEI initiatives.   This time the government is targeting Cornell University and Northwestern University.

The Lowdown

According to The New York Times, Trump admin officials have announced the freezing of $1B in funding to Cornell University and about $790m in funding to Northwestern University.   A Trump official claims that the freezing comes amid ‘investigations’ into alleged discrimination in regards to Title VI violations.

The Times notes that it is unclear when and how the freezing may have taken place. Cornell for their part is aware of reports citing the freeze, but haasn’t confirmed that $1B in funding has been frozen.

On the other hand, however, the school has received upwards of 75 stop work orders from the Dept of Defense related to high-level national defence, cybersecurity, and health.
