Poultry markets in the nyc area shuttered amid bird flu detection

According to reports, officials in New York City, the Westchester area, and Long Island have ordered closed local poultry markets.

The Lowdown

The closures per the governor’s office are expected to last about a week. On Friday, Governor Hochul confirmed that the bird flu had been detected during recent routine inspections. Despite the continued spread of the disease, the CDC says there is no imminent risk at this time to the public.

Officials reportedly discovered the disease after inspections turned up positive tests in the Bronx; Brooklyn, and Queens area.
