DeepSeek is the latest in a long line of AI offerings that offers up a handy AI assistant to people. For starters, the app seems to have good intentions except for one small problem.

The Lowdown
Against all the hype, Bazaar Daily tested out DeepSeek over the weekend and was pleasantly surprised by what we found — except with a few minor exceptions.
Here’s what people should know before downloading the app.
- Yes the app is much cheaper than its rivals.
- The app is based in China. We encourage people to always check things out for themselves. However in this instance you should probably express caution. This app is in China and subject to the rules of the Communist Party of China.
- It is not exactly clear how data is processed or saved by this app if at all.
- The app gives accurate answers for the most part until you attempt to ask it about: Taiwan, Winnie the Pooh, and other things China notably doesn’t like. For this reason, you probably shouldn’t use DeepSeek for official purposes or perhaps if you’re writing an essay (the answers may be heavily skewed by the CCP.)
- DeepSeek ‘s available information goes up to last year but beyond that answers may be dicey and wrong. Before you use this app you should certainly read its TOS and other information because again it is based in China and your data may be used improperly.
- Compared to ChatGPT, ChatGPT is probably more reliable because in China all AI tools are required to abide by the ‘core socialist values’ of the CCP meaning that the app can only deliver what it is allowed to do. ChatGPT based in America does not have such restrictions on the matter.
