British-educated former first lady and war criminal Asma Al-Assad like her husband has been overthrown and now lives in exile in Moscow. It is widely believed that Assad’s connections and relationship with Moscow helped them gain asylum in the country despite their horrific crimes that would have anyone else stand trial.

BAZAAR DAILY presents Dictators: The World’s Evil a special presentation documenting the world’s most notorious leaders and their counterparts. In this first entry, the Assad regime which formerly ruled Syria for 54 years is chronicled starting from the point of view of Asma Assad who has been described as ‘nothing compared to her husband.’

The Lowdown

Together it is quite easy for one to see why Syria’s former first family has been described as ‘war criminals’ and monsters.’ It is estimated that in part more than 580,000 innocent Syrians (since roughly 2012) have been murdered in cold blood by the Assad family and their regime. However to be completely transparent in the matter, unfortunately, the true number of casualties may never be fully known.

Born in London in 1975, the otherwise academically smart and glamorous Assad had what others would probably describe as an ordinary but successful life before that faithful day in 2000 that would go on to change the course of her life forever. At barely 49, Asma is considered to be one of the world’s most notorious war criminals not far down the list from her husband Bashar Al-Assad. Asma is also considered a very dangerous individual and per the UK is not welcome back in the country now that her family has been kicked out of Syria.

Everything changed for Asma on 13 December 2000 when she married Bashar Al-Assad at the height of his power and after he formally took over Syria. Often described as ‘ the Imelda Marcos of Syria’ Asma’s story reads like the script of a villain story you didn’t see coming. Perhaps some could argue that Asma’s downfall began in 2011 after her true colors were revealed following the publication of an ill-advised profile by Vogue just weeks after the Arab Spring sprang to life.

How it all began

Asma was born in 1975 in the London neighborhood of Acton. Her father Fawaz Akhras was a Syrian cardiologist who worked notably in Harley Street. Her mother Sahar was an accomplished diplomat at the country’s embassy.

The infamous Vogue spread

There is no shortage of shocking one of the most puzzling press pieces about Asma comes from Vogue and basically paraded Asma through their glossy pages as some some of Democratic princess, when in reality, she and her husband Bashar are more like Shego and the evil doctor from Kim Possible armed with chemical weapons used against Syria ‘s own people.

The infamous piece came as the Arab Spring first took flight and the world learned how awful the Assad family really is.

The Saydnaya Prison

Saydnaya Prison is believed to be one of many notorious prisons kept by the Assad family and its fallen regime. The prison according to previous profiles has all but been described as the coldest place in hell.

Rebel fighters following the Assad’s ouster have managed to free thousands of prisoners from Saydnaya and others. The White Helmets are investigating claims that others are still trapped throughout the country in various state-run prisons and torture chambers.

Their tyrannical rule from hell

Asma al-Assad like her family is responsible for the death of hundreds of thousands of innocent Syrians. The Assad family is a clear-cut example of what happens when the ruling class takes over a country, needless suffering almost always ensues. While Syrians starved; were locked away in secret prisons, raped, tortured, if not outright killed in their cold-blood the Assad family lived mightily.

Because we don’t glorify criminals let alone war criminals at Bazaar Daily many otherwise ordinary details of Asma’s life have been left out of this article. The focus of this article is not her shopping sprees or charitable donations but the very real and very scary crimes she and her family are responsible for.

Following their ouster, it was discovered that inside the Presidential palace was a swathe of cars; piles and piles of food, family photographs, unseen photos of Bashar Al-Assad himself, lots of Louis Vuitton, and more. But that’s nowhere near the worst part of their ouster.

The White Helmets (aka Civil Protection Service of Syria) have discovered that the Assad family kept several private top-secret prisons that housed an obscene number of prisoners including very young children. In some of these places, rotting corpses have been found indicating that the Assad’s had kept people there for decades against their will particularly inside of the notorious Saydnaya Prison.

In the next edition of Dictators: The World’s Evil we’re taking a crack at the warlord himself Bashar Al-Assad.
