Mexico ‘s new President Claudia Sheinbaum may not like this one. According to reports, Donald Trump should he win is floating an entirely new policy idea that directly involves America ‘s southern neighbor.

The Lowdown

During Trump ‘s rally in North Carolina a pair of comments about Mexico have gone viral online. According to a readout from the rally, Trump claimed that Mexico would essentially foot 25% of the cost of border security by way of increased tariffs. It is the latest in a long line of policy proposals that similar to others never amounted previously introduced by Donald.

“One of the first calls I’m going to make is to Mexico. ‘You stop letting people come in through our border,’” Trump told the crowds.

“I’m going to inform her [Mexico President Claudia Sheinbaum] on day one or sooner that if they don’t stop this onslaught of criminals and drugs coming into our country, I’m going to immediately impose a 25% tariff on everything they send into the United States of America.”

Trump added: “You’re the first ones I’ve told that to. Congratulations, North Carolina. And it’s only got a 100% chance of working because if it doesn’t work, I’ll make it a 50% tariff. And if that doesn’t work, I’ll make it 75%.”
