IKEA paying upwards of $6.5m to prisoners who were forced to build their furniture in communist Germany

Furniture store IKEA is making right on its terrifying past. According to reports, the company is working with German officials to fund a new monetary fund setup for survivors.

The Lowdown

According to CNN, IKEA is forking over some $6.5m to a German fund meant to address many of the warehouse horrors that took place during the Cold War. Prisoners were notoriously forced to build furniture for the chain during the height of the cold war. The funds will be set aside in a government fund to assist victims of forced labor and communist dictatorships.
