Earlier this year an infinite money glitch turned into a fraudulent payday for quite a few people at Chase Bank. Now according to reports, the bank has begun suing those same customers to recoup those funds and more. Yes more.
The Lowdown
Chase Bank is officially coming for those that thought an ATM glitch meant a payday. According to the bank, Chase is seeking $660K plus interest, lawyer fees, and damages over the incident which numerous people are understood to have taken part in.
In one instance in Texas, the bank alleges that with the help of a masked accomplice that a man made off with some $290,000 in illicit funds. That instance occcurred after a masked accomplice deposited a check for $335,000 into his account. Elsewhere in the Southern District of Florida, the bank alleges that two businesses separately swiped up to $140,000 a piece. These court documents are only just the beginning as thousands of people are believed to have taken part in the so-called Tik Tok trend.
What happened?
Earlier this year Chase experienced an ATM glitch that essentially allowed people to deposit and maneuver money into their account that they didn’t actually have. Some of these people believed to be in the thousands withdrew tens of thousands of dollars that wasn’t rightfully theirs.
Chase fixed the problem within days of it being announced back in August following the ATM ‘hack’ going viral on Tik Tok which sparked the scam.
