Having first disappeared on 16 January 1977, authorities at the time ruled his death as the result of a drug overdose. The New York Times reports that he has been identified by Berks County Coroner’s Office as Nicholas Paul Grubb of Fort Wayne PA.

The remains were initially found in a cave at the peak of the Appalachian Mountain peak by two hikers on that unfortunate night.
