1. U.S military officials have handed over the last remaining military base in Niger [that belonged to America] to the ruling junta authorities.

Following last year’s coup and then the demand that American troops evacuate the country, America no longer has a foothold in the African country. According to the State Department, Monday saw the formal handover marking the end of American counterrorism efforts in the area. The base Air Base 201 in question had been a critical one often used for counterrorism efforts against the many jihadi groups operating throughout the region.
