Coronavirus cases are down but they’re not quite out of the ballpark just yet. In this week’s things we think you should most certainly absolutely know about column we’re going to talk about the newly discovered BA.2 variant of COVID-19 (Omicron ‘s variant.). According to health officials, early data on this variant appears to show that it is capable of evading some of our current tools available against the Coronavirus.

New lab experiments from Japan show that BA.2 may have features that make it as capable of causing serious illness as older variants of Covid-19, including Delta.

A preprint of the study has been released although the study is expected to undergo further independent review.
