Come later on (not this tax year) the one place largely considered and no less than universally disliked is about to make the lives of many taxpaying Americans a tad harder. According to the IRS, the tax agency has announced that it is outsourcing some of its online security practices to a third party company. As it stands, that company appears to be ID.ME is a security verification service that most people have probably heard of or encountered at some point or something similar to it.

Nonetheless, the IRS has made it clear that you will be able to file taxes without having to submit selfies or video selfies. But for things like checking stimulus checks; checking on anything child tax credit-related, and things like making payment arrangements will require submitting to the selfie/video portion of the verification process.
