Johnson & Johnson’s COVID-19 vaccine is getting anything but good press as of late. According to the European Medicines Agency, the vaccine is understood to be linked to that of venous thromboembolism (VTE.)

That disease is understood to be a life threatening one as a result of severe blood clotting.

The same agency is also recommending that VTE along with immune thrombocytopenia (ITP) be listed as rare side effects of the vaccine.

‘One plausible explanation for the combination of blood clots and low blood platelets is an immune response, leading to a condition similar to one seen sometimes in patients treated with heparin,’ the EMA said.
