Amid growing tensions between the governments of the United States, Venezuela, and alleged drug-smuggling criminal gangs — the U.S has raised further concerns of all-out conflict in the region.
The Lowdown
Against the backdrop of growing tensions near Venezuela over alleged drug smuggling ships, the United States has escalated its presence in the region. According to reports, Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth announced on social media that a U.S aircraft carrier has been deployed to the region following several high-profile attacks by American armed forces in the area.
The attacks according to America’s count all targeted alleged ships led by international criminal gangs that per the account all had wide swathes of fentanyl and other drugs aboard. America maintains that the ships and their persons were bound for U.S waters.
The aircraft in question the USS Gerald Ford was deployed this week to ‘bolster the capacity of the U.S to detect bad actors that compromise the safety and security of the United States.’
