The Lowdown
Jewel thieves in Paris have pulled off quite the daring heist. According to reports, police are investigating after a break-in was reported at the Louvre this morning which resulted in the museum closing for the day. Reports say that a group of robbers broke into the museum, robbed the place, and then escaped on scooters that were posted up outside.
In perhaps the most baffling part of the situation the reported robbery which saw 9 historical pieces taken took all of seven minutes. Police believe that the robbers took advantage of construction being performed around the museum and used a lift that was outside to gain entrance into the building. They reportedly were armed with chainsaws during the robbery but only made off with items from the Apollo Gallery on the Seine side of the museum.
Museum officials, however, are probably breathing an intense sign of relief. The museum ‘s most famous and arguably most expensive piece — the 140-carat Regent diamond — was not stolen in the heist.
