Troubling news in politics this weekend. According to a series of newly released papers by the National Archives, former Prime Minister Tony Blair has some explaining to do.
The Lowdown
According to the papers released by the National Archives, Epstein the now deceased notorious pedophile and predator met Blair on 14 May 2002 after a suggestion by then Lord Mandelson. Mandelson for those unaware was famously sacked as US ambassador in September after it actually emerged that despite claims to the contrary that he was very close with the convicted sex offender.
The papers show that at the time of the whole ordeal, Mandelson was a backbench Labour MP but still served as a right-hand ally to Blair. In case it couldn’t get any worse in recommending the meeting in the first place Mandelson described Epstein to Blair’s then chief of staff Jonathan Powell as ‘safe’ and a ‘friend’ according to the Guardian.
It is the latest scandal to erupt in relation to Jeffrey Epstein even though he as the story goes took his own life in a U.S prison a while back.
