A new entry/exit immigration system in continental Europe is making headlines. According to reports, officials across much of Europe are gearing up to launch what is expected to be a biometric tracking system that will eventually track all non-EU citizens (including Americans) with a photograph and fingerprint scan.

The Lowdown

Big changes are coming to the way non-Europeans enter the European Union. According to an announcement, beginning 12 October a series of new entry-exit requirements will take shape across the continent. The changes include the administration of a new system that will flag all non-EU travelers with a photograph taken and a biometric scan of their fingerprint.

Those who refuse to do so at airports in the region will be turned away at the border upon entry or exit. The goal of the new system appears to be to track entries and exits and better track those who may overstay their welcome on the continent. The initial rollout appears to include at least 29 airports and is expected to be fully functional across the continent by April.
