Following intense backlash and wave(s) of cancellations across Disney’s portfolio, ABC has announced that Jimmy Kimmel will return to the air tomorrow night in his first monologue since the now infamous effort to get him cancelled by the far-right.
The Lowdown
Following waves of Disney+ cancellations and backlash against both the entertainment company and ABC Jimmy Kimmel is coming back to the air. According to a statement released by ABC, the news has been met with widespread praise as many had pointed out online how ABC was looking at potentially hefty lawsuit had they not brought Kimmel back on the air. The suit of course would have been filed on grounds of First Amendment violations.
“Last Wednesday, we made the decision to suspend production on the show to avoid further inflaming a tense situation at an emotional moment for our country,” the company, which owns the ABC television network, said on Monday. “It is a decision we made because we felt some of the comments were ill-timed and thus insensitive. We have spent the last days having thoughtful conversations with Jimmy, and after those conversations, we reached the decision to return the show on Tuesday.”
Kimmel first fell out of favor with the far-right after he made comments about Charlie Kirk that some say were misinterpreted by the far-right earlier this month.
