Now more than ever might be the time to take a peek at one’s credit report. According to consumer credit reporting giant Transunion, Transunion has been hit by a massive data breach that occurred on 28 July but only just now started making headlines.

The Lowdown

According to documents filed in Maine,   the breach was discovered two days after the initial hack.  The company per the documents acknowledged that the hack didn’t result in anyone’s credit information being compromised.   While that may be the case they did acknowledge that hackers did gain access to social security numbers for Americans across the country.

Some reports suggest that the breach was part of a much larger attack that occurred against a Google database managed through Salesforce ‘s cloud platform.

That attack by the group known as ShinyHunters stole troves of business files containing all sorts of private information. The attacks on Salesforce have also caused problems for other well-known companies such as Farmers Insurance, Allianz Life, Workday, Pandora, Cisco, Chanel, and Qantas.
