Amid a high stakes duel taking shape next year,  America ‘s two main political parties are flirting with bringing back an old school feat of American politics: midterm conventions.

The Lowdown

For the first time in decades, a former fixture of American politics looks to be making a comeback. According to The Hill, Democratic Party officials are exploring the possibility of hosting a midterm Democratic convention just before next year’s high-stakes election.   Such would be the first of such conventions to be held in the United States since at least the end of the 80s.

The Democratic party famously did away with such conventions in 1986. Midterm conventions in the past famously showcased major candidates across the Democratic party rather than those that later only solely focused on Presidential candidates.

Following the announcement, Trump claimed on his social platform that Republicans are also flirting with the same idea.
