Roblox, the game widely popular with young children and teenagers, is back in the news. According to the game’s makers, an AI-assisted safety feature has been launched to help crack down on predators inboxing children online.

The Lowdown

But this is far from the only reason Roblox is in the news. According to reports, the move comes after the game was sued in Iowa earlier this month against claims that it isn’t doing enough to protect children. In that case, it is claimed that a 13-year-old girl was introduced to a predator on the platform and then trafficked across state lines numerous times all following an alleged interaction on Roblox. That suit is one of many on a growing list of complaints against the platform which has faced criticism in the past.

The AI program understood to be called Sentinel will look over chats to detect sexually charged language or content sent to the inboxes of children. In the first half of this year alone, the company claims that it sent more than 2.5k complaints of attempted child trafficking to the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children.

On their part, Roblox maintains that no system is perfect but they strive to make their systems as safe as possible.
