Amid faltering talks Donald Trump has announced 50% tariffs on imports from Europe are set to come into effect on 1 June. The move marks a major escalation in Trump ‘s ongoing tariff scheme that has upended global trade.
The Lowdown
On Friday, Donald Trump announced that the United States will impose 50% tariffs on European imports into the country beginning 1 June. The move comes on the heels of so called ‘negotiation talks’ between the powers that be that have ultimately failed to meet Trump ‘s demands. Overall, Trump ‘s attempts to corner officials in Europe into providing concessions to the United States appear to have been largely unsuccessful.
In typical Trumpian claims, Trump continues to accuse the European Union of taking advantage of the United States. On Truth Social the following message was played.
“Our discussions with them are going nowhere! Therefore I am recommending a straight 50% Tariff on the European Union, starting on June 1, 2025.”
