According to reports, troubling developments in the bankruptcy case of 23andMe the genetic testing company. Per the case, the company has found a buyer and as expected privacy concerns are high.
The buyer has been named as Regeneron Pharma yes big pharma swooped in guys gals and people. The pharma company according to the WSJ (paywall) has purchased 23andMe for $257m and Regeneron will acquire all genetic data in the dale.
A hearing is scheduled for 17 June in Missouri to hash out approval of the sale per the bankruptcy proceedings. 23andMe ‘s services will continue uninterrupted but consumers should exercise extreme caution and judgement leaving their genetic data in the hands of a pharmaceutical company.
