The Lowdown
A tragic and terrifying story underground this week. According to the NYPD, Felix Rojas, 44, has been arrested after CCTV footage showed Rojas on an R train sexually assaulting a man that police later discovered was actually dead.
The case actually sprung up weeks ago, but only recently began turning up actual suspects. Police initially had footage of two different people robbing the dead man’s corpse on the train headed into Manhattan at the time. Rojas sexually violated the man’s body after the fact.
Fast forward to Tuesday, Rojas was finally arraigned three long weeks after authorities said he abused a male victim inside of a subway car. He has also been charged with attempted grand larceny in the case.. no plea was formally entered.
Police allege that as all of these things took place that Rojas would ‘stop’ the attacks in between stations to avoid onlookers catching him in the act. He didn’t realize he was being captured on video footage.
The truly shocking crime unfolded on a southbound R train near Whitehall Street station in Manhattan on 8 April shorlty after 10:50 pm.
