South Korea is following quite a stretch of political chaos formally set to hold its next Presidential election. According to officials, the election is expected this summer.

The Lowdown

Following the impeachcment of Yoon Suk Yeol in December and later his removal by the country’s constitutional court — a new dawn is emerging in South Korea.   According to reports, the next election in the country has been announced and will take place on 5 June 2025.

Yeol was famously impeached in December following his less than popular attempt at declaring martial law in South Korea.   The court formally upheld that impeachment on 4 April,  which granted the path to an election within 60 days.

Acting president Han Duck-soo formally announced the news with an election date on Tuesday pointing out that the country ‘must heal’ from the deep chaos sowed over the last year.
