According to the New York Times, Colombian government officials and their families and relatives have all been hit with sanctions by the Trump Administration. The move comes following President Gustavo Petro‘s refusal to allow two U.S. military aircraft carrying Colombian nationals to land in the country. Petro in online posts reiterated that his citizens were not criminals and shouldn’t have been escorted on military planes.
In retaliation for the refusal, the U.S. has imposed a 25% tariff on all goods from Colombia that enter the country.
