According to reports, Virginia is reviving an effort to boot 1.6k voters from voter rolls in the state.   The move comes amid claims by the state’s GOP Governor that the voters in question are noncitizens.

The Lowdown

The AP reports that the move comes after a federal appeals court unanimously  found that the purge occurred during a 90-day quiet period with an election in sight.  That meant that the voters must be restored and given the right to vote in the upcoming election.

What happened?

Back in August, the state ‘s GOP governor Glenn Youngkin issued an executive order requiring that the DMV put in extra footwork to identify noncitizens by further verifying their information against records.  The order mandated that the checks occur daily.

Youngkin now hopes that the Supreme Court will reinstate the order though it is unclear which direction the right-leaning court will head.
