Erik and Lyle Menendez are officially one step closer to freedom. According to the LA District Attorney’s office, the duo’s case has an update.

The Lowdown

30 years after the brutal slayings of their parents, brothers Erik and Lyle Menendez are one step closer to freedom. The brothers were originally sentenced in 1989 for the slayings of their parents Jose and Kitty Menendez.

Why the change?

The LA District Attorney’s office has shared that this case recently came back into the spotlight about a year ago. During this time, troubling evidence began to emerge, revealing that both men endured horrific sexual abuse at the hands of their father throughout their childhood. This revelation highlights the deep pain and trauma they have faced for many years.

The case also received renewed attention after Ryan Murphy released Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez story.

Any final decisions on the matter are to be left to a judge.
